KATIE DORSEY
MY PROCESS:
My Inspiration for this container was the Arts and Crafts movement, so I found a vintage wall paper pattern and printed it to use for the exterior of my box. I was thinking of William Morris' designs when I selected this pattern. I opted not to include an image on the lid when I found the frame. This is a deviation from my proposal, but I believe I made a comparable substitution.
I framed the title of my piece with a complementary shape. I chose an ornate wooden cut out to replicate a hand-made feel. The design is clean and I was careful to pay attention to my craftsmanship in all aspects of the project. I used jute cord to complement the craft paper of the box. My cards are postcards, they are all addressed to Phillip B. Meggs and signed Katie. The concept is that I am writing to the author in appreciation as I discover the images he has shared with me on my journey through graphic design.
The date of the image is reflected in the post mark.
The citation of the textbook is on the underside of my lid.
I chose a font that looks like my handwriting (in a perfect world!) that I obtained from dafont.com. I layed out my postcards in InDesign, printed them on 108 lb Paris Paper, glued the front and back together to make them stronger, and then hand trimmed them with a steel ruler and Xacto knife.
